Projectors and test patterns

Open Screens… in the top bar and scroll to Projectors and test patterns.

Test patterns

For setting up a projector or TV: click one and it shows on every screen.

Pattern Use it to check
Grid Focus and keystone. The lines should be sharp and square all over, and the circles round. The fine lines in the middle blur first when the focus is off.
Colour bars Colour and brightness. Every bar, and every step of the grey scale underneath, should look different. If the darkest steps all look black, turn the brightness up a little; if the lightest all look white, turn the contrast down.
White An even picture. Look for dim corners or a colour tint.
Edges Whether the edges are cut off. All four yellow arrows and the thin red line round the edge should show. If they don't, the TV is zooming in: look for Just Scan, Screen Fit or 1:1 in its picture settings.

Click the pattern again, or Turn off the test pattern, or click any slide, to put the service back. On screen says Test pattern while one is up.

Projectors

PraiseAV can turn projectors on and off, and hide the picture, from the computer, over the church's network. Most projectors made in the last fifteen years can be controlled this way. It's called PJLink.

Setting one up

  1. On the projector, open its network settings menu (the remote's Menu button), and:
    • plug it into the church's network with a network cable (or Wi-Fi, if it has it), on the same network as this computer;
    • turn on PJLink (it may be called network control or network standby: turn on standby too, or it can't be turned on over the network);
    • note its IP address, like 192.168.1.50. If it can, fix the address so it doesn't change.
  2. In PraiseAV, Screens… › + Add a projector: give it a name (Main projector), type its address, and its PJLink password if it has one (some come with a password already set; the manual says what).
  3. Save. PraiseAV checks it and says how it is: It's off, lamp used 1,234 hours.

The buttons

Button What it does
Turn on Starts the projector. It takes a minute to warm up (It's warming up).
Turn off Turns it off, after asking. It cools down for a minute or two, and can't be turned on again until it has.
Close shutter Hides the picture (and sound) without turning it off, and it comes back instantly with Open shutter. Better than turning off and on for a short break.
Check Asks it again how it is: on or off, the shutter, lamp hours, and any warnings (a filter to clean, too hot, a lamp near the end).
Change… Its name, address or password.

With two or more projectors there's also Turn them all on and Turn them all off.

If it says it can't talk to the projector

The password is kept on this computer only, protected for your Windows account. It isn't in backups or church setup files.
